Forestry specialists and arborists work 14-hour days to keep up with sky-high demand in central Indiana

If there’s a silver lining to high winds and torrential rain, it can be found in the bank accounts of companies called upon to clean up the mess. For the dozens of tree cutting, trimming and hauling firms that fill up seven pages in the local Yellow Pages, the storms of late spring came at just the right time. (more)

Joel Dryden, Michael Ranniger, Sean Rock, and Bret Uppencamp have been named this year's recipients of the 2008 Excellence in Arboriculture Award.
This award, sponsored by Vine and Branch, Inc. recognizes student achievement at Purdue University in urban tree care and/or planning. The award recognizes the ability of the students to apply classroom theory to real world situations. The award includes a cash prize along with recognition on a permanent award plaque in the Forestry Building at the University.

List of IN Tree Cities for 2007.

Tree Cities have to meet four standards, annually, to become and remain a Tree City USA.

  • Draft and pass an enforceable public tree ordinance.
  • Have a municipal department in charge of the tree program which must include a Tree Advisory Board
  • Spend at least $2 per capita on the public tree care program
  • Have an Arbor Day event and proclamation

At the "National Wild Turkey Federation International Conference" in Nashville, TNLarry Terrell (on the right, below) accepted the Energy for Wildlife Achievement Award for South Central Indiana REMC (SCI's) Right of Way Dept.

The NWTF honored SCI for the company’s outstanding efforts to improve wildlife habitat and promote conservation and our hunting heritage. Energy for Wildlife's 25 members manage more than 1.5 million acres of wildlife habitat.

Phil Ping,owner of Ping’s Tree Service, Inc. was recently appointed to serve on the Indianapolis/Marion County Tree Board. His term begins immediately and will expire on December 31, 2007.
