Tree Owner's Manual

The U.S. Forest Service has created a Tree Owner’s Manual. Just like the manual that comes with automobiles and appliances, this booklet includes a parts diagram, instructions for installation, tips for troubleshooting, and more.

The small black-and-white booklet can be distributed at tree sales, Arbor Day ceremonies, and home shows, as well as to existing landscape and tree care clients. Any organization interested in printing and distributing the manual can have it's logo printed on the cover. If interested, send the mailing address and logo in .jpg or .tif format to Jill Johnson at jilljohnson@fs.fed.us. To download a copy, visit www.treeownersmanual.info.

Breaking Stories

Trees with a Story
to Tell

Although its not the biggest tree on the block, the American Hornbeam that resides at Crown Hill Cemetery has staked its claim as the biggest of it's species in Indiana. With a circumference of 153 inches (over 12 feet), a height of 33 feet and a crown spread of 58 feet it is recognized as the biggest Hornbeam in Indiana. Also known as Musclewood trees for their obvious appearance of muscle-y like limbs, this hornbeam redefines big because while it is only 33 feet tall, it may have taken this tree 100 years to grow to this size. For the Crown Hill Tree tour, look for a map at the Waiting Station.
